In the early hours, bikes wizzed alongside the Oudegracht. Waking up, Utrecht relied on cyclists to operate daily. It was intriguing to be in an urban area where the honking of horns wasn’t prevalent. Meandering the local boutiques and eateries of the Oudegracht, the absence of traffic was both alien and refreshing to me. A large window pane framed in a bumblebee yellow created a warm, natural continuation of the charming street. I felt invited in before I had even spoken to anyone.
Space
Wrapping my palms around a warm latte, I felt cozy with cushions and friends at ‘t Koffieboontje. Sipping and chatting, I could have stared out the window at the canal for hours. Tons of tight knit, indoor seating was available, making me feel at ease. Like I was visiting a companion’s home.
The interior was simple but inviting in an array of neutral tones. The local newspapers were begging me to sit and stay awhile. The welcoming vibes were topped off by the cheerful staff.
Hazelnut Latte
Arriving in an aesthetic glass cup, the rich browns of my hot beverage were laid bare for the eye to witness. Quite frankly, this was the best hazelnut latte I’ve ever had. I’ve had a lot of them, because they’re my absolute favorite. The way the nutty notes of the syrup blended with the strong, specialty blend was so beautiful it brought a smile to my face.
For food, ‘t Koffieboontje offered nourishing breakfast, lunch, cake, and vegan options. Matcha and chai beverages were also available. No matter what you decide to get, the Oudegracht charm, homey atmosphere, and quality coffee at ‘t Koffieboontje will leave you wanting to return over and over again.
