High Street
The solid, grey stone around me formed the foundations of Edinburgh’ s rich history. Touched by the tales the dramatic structures could tell, I wandered amongst the medieval architecture on High Street. Colorful cashmere and wool tartans stared at me as I window-shopped. I could have been satisfied for ages. Eventually, the stunning Gothic influences of St. Giles’ Cathedral caught my eye.

St. Giles’ Cathedral
Melodramatic in style, the pointed stain glass arches led my gaze towards the high ceiling. I felt I was meant to see the architect’s perspective of divine direction, to the clouds. The ornate golds and reds of the ceiling accented the dark stonework. Nine hundred years of history felt alive in St. Giles’ Cathedral.

Victoria Street
Built in the 19th century, Victoria Street was an unexpected contrast to Edinburgh’s usual muted color palate. The pastel tones of the old-fashioned shops and eateries offered a unique photo opportunity in the city. Don’t forget the check out the many Jellycat options in Swish!

Edinburgh Castle
At the finish line of my Royal Mile wonder sat Edinburgh Castle, majestic atop its hill. From this high vantage point, I admired views of the city and the medieval structure itself. If desired, guided tours were available to experience the interior and learn about the castle’s royal tales. Book in advance here.

Amber Restaurant and Whisky Bar
A fitting end to my morning in Edinburgh, I got to unwind and dine with a glass of infamous Scotch whisky. The Amber Restaurant offered casual but refined Scottish cuisine. Both classic and experimental, their whiskey flights covered all spectrums of the palate. Upstairs they have their Scotch Whisky Experience, where you can tour their facilities and try some more whisky!

No matter what I had done with my morning in Edinburgh, the atmosphere of the city was enough. At the very heart of Scottish history, the capital has seen the journey of the nation. If only the stone could talk. It sure seemed like it could breathe.
